Qualche cenno di storia

Il Comune è composto da due centri abitati: Lavena e Ponte Tresa. Lavena è il nucleo storico più antico, esistente dal X secolo a.C., e Ponte Tresa è noto dal 875. Lavena ha origini preceltiche e fu menzionata per la prima volta nel 710. Il primo villaggio sorse lungo un canale abitato da popolazioni ibero-liguri e celtiche. Le lotte nella valle della Tresa portarono alla costruzione di un castello fortificato, che fu incendiato dai comaschi nel 1122. Lavena passò poi sotto Milano, mantenendo la sua appartenenza religiosa a Como fino al 1633.

Lavena è formata da due centri storici: Castello (XII secolo) e Villa (XVIII secolo). La chiesa parrocchiale più antica, dedicata ai SS. Pietro e Paolo, fu demolita nel 1960, lasciando solo il campanile. L'attuale chiesa, realizzata alla fine del XVII secolo, è dedicata alla Beata Vergine della Porta.

Ponte Tresa ha una storia recente, con testimonianze di un ponte già dal XV secolo. Il ponte ha un ruolo primario nei collegamenti a sud delle Alpi e mantiene un forte valore simbolico ed economico. Il primo nucleo abitativo risale al XVI secolo, legato ai mercanti lombardi che transitavano per Lugano.

A bit of history

The municipality is composed of two inhabited centers: Lavena and Ponte Tresa. Lavena is the oldest historical town, existing since the 10th century BC, and Ponte Tresa has been known since 875 AD. Lavena has pre-Celtic origins and was mentioned for the first time in 710 AD. The first village arose along a canal inhabited by Iberian-Ligurian and Celtic populations. The struggles in the Tresa valley led to the construction of a fortified castle, which was burned by the inhabitants of Como in 1122. Lavena then passed under Milan, maintaining its religious affiliation with Como until 1633.

Lavena is formed by two historical centers: Castle (12th century) and Villa (18th century). The oldest parish church, dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul, was demolished in 1960, leaving only the bell tower. The current church, built at the end of the 17th century, is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Door.

Ponte Tresa has a more recent history, with evidence of a bridge dating back to the 15th century. The bridge has a primary role in connections south of the Alps and maintains a strong symbolic and economic value. The first inhabited nucleus dates back to the 16th century, linked to Lombard merchants transiting through Lugano.
